About us
"A photograph is a moment in time, frozen for all to see. With a photograph that moment can last forever and never be denied."
Pieces of Sky CIC is a not-for-profit visual-media organisation serving the Public Sector and Third Sector throughout the UK and overseas.Complementing the varied imaging work that Pieces of Sky undertakes, we also have a wealth of experience in Public and Third Sector regeneration activities, public engagement, research, evidencing and intergenerational activity. We work with people and organisations on both urban and rural focused initiatives, exploring a broad spectrum of subject areas and policy topics. Pieces of Sky has a rich mix of skills and knowledge that enables us to approach each project from the perspective of both our clients needs and from the viewpoint of the varied people and communities we work with. We engage with people from all walks of life to explore and raise awareness of often challenging issues to promote understanding, inform and encourage debate, influence policy and strategy, or to celebrate achievement. Whatever the topic everyone has a voice with us. Photography is after all a universal language.
All too often photography is done 'to' people. We prefer to photograph 'with' people. It may be a community led photo-survey, a policy impact study, or a celebratory exhibition, we will happily spend time developing the brief with our partners. Often the best projects are dynamic and able to respond to the unexpected, our delivery mechanisms ensure that Pieces of Sky is flexible and able to respond to that added dimension. Many aspects of our work are also delivered as very specific thematic projects that may capture an issue or explore a given subject (such as loneliness and isolation). These thematic projects may engage directly with whole communities or with individual people. Different projects require different approaches and we have the experience to choose the right approach for each project. Projects range from one-day engagements to investigative activities of several years.
