Projects

As part of our Communities Celebration work we are following the positive impacts that real community initiatives are making to the lives of people up and down the country. Projects like this community café, run as a cooperative in Nottingham, in an area that has seen its fare share of temporary housing, people moving in and moving out week after week, and the fabric of the community being eroded away like sand blowing in the wind.

Those people who actually called the area home had two choices. Close their doors to the issue and let the Council deal with it or do something themselves. These people chose the latter option, and now there’s a community café in Nottingham, in amongst the tower blocks where people come for a cuppa and a chat. Every colour of skin and pretty much every language from around the globe can be heard at any one time but it is without any shadow of a doubt a thriving community. Over the next 24 months Pieces of Sky will be following the life of this café and other projects like it all over the UK.
