Projects

In 2009 twelve projects around the UK received a share of £5.5 million to bring younger and older people together on equal terms, break down barriers and challenge negative stereotypes. The funding will help to address many of those common issues that we all read about in the papers day in, day out. The breakdown of communities, rising crime, lack of understanding, the vulnerability of older people and the welfare of younger people.

One of the twelve projects is a collaboration between The Tall Ships Youth Trust and Portsmouth City Council to take twenty-four people from right the way across the age spectrum and thrust them into one of the most challenging environments on earth……… and then race!

We jumped at the chance to become involved in such an innovative project. Having double-checked our insurance policies, especially those little clauses around hazardous activities, we climbed on board sailed off into the sunset.

We’ll be following the project as it develops over the next 12 months, somewhere off the coast of a county near you!
